a reportage abroad.
RULES
Number of photographs: We require the presentation of 10 images accompanied by a brief description of the work submitted (title of the project and a comment of 15 lines max). Each competitor can only present one project. The reportage need not necessarily have been produced over the last year.
Submission of the photographs: All participants must submit their photographs in digital format and in low resolution. Both color and black-and-white pictures should have the following technical characteristics: JPEG file, 72dpi quality, maximum 1.024 pixel format. The original format of the photograph is not binding; it can be either negative, positive or digital. Alternatively, candidates can send prints (maximum size 20x30 cm) to the following address: Photoaid, via Giovannino de Grassi 11 - 20120 Milan - Italia.
Applications are to be made through our website - www.photoaid.eu - by following the “Photoaid Contest 2011/Arché” link. The photographs and their brief description (in word format) should be sent to contest@photoaid.eu via the website https://www.wetransfer.com following the instructions below:
(1) Upload the photographs where it says “Add files"
(2) Type contest@potoaid.eu where it says “Enter friend’s email address”
(3) Type your own email address where it says “Enter your email address”
(4) Where it says “Type your message”, please type: Photoaid Contest 2011 – your name and surname – the title of your reportage
(5) Click “Transfer” to complete the application. You will receive a letter to confirm the receipt of your message and photographs.
For the submission of traditional photographic prints, please follow the instructions on the application page of our website.

The jury will assess the photographs based on their artistic quality, their creative expression and their ability to communicate social issues. The jury’s decision is final.
Participation in the contest requires from each candidate the unconditional acceptance of the rules described herein, as well as the nonrefundable payment of a 20-euro application fee. In this way, candidates will contribute to supporting the future missions of Photoaid photographers.
ATTENTION:: admission to Photoaid Contest 2011/Arché is dependent on regular payment of the enrolment fee of 20 euros to be made directly to the following account held at Banca Intesa:

Reason for payment should read as follows: Name – Surname – PhotoAid Contest 2011 – title of reportage..
The author of each submitted photograph, declares and guarantees to Photoaid:
(1) to be the author of the photographs sent and to be the sole and legitimate owner of all copyrights and exploitation rights, including economic rights, of each photograph thereby declaring to own all rights of reproduction of the photographs in question;
(2) to be responsible for the content of the work presented, thereby ensuring the indemnity of Photoaid from any claims/actions by third parties, and to be responsible for the compensation of Photoaid for any prejudicial or injurious consequence.
The winners will be contacted by email and registered mail at the addresses provided during the application process on the web. The winners are required to confirm their acceptance within at latest 30 days of receiving the registered letter, by returning the form (contained in the email and registered letter mailed to them) duly signed and accompanied by a photocopy of valid ID, by fax, mail or email to the addresses provided on the form itself.
In case one of the following situations occurs:
- One or more of the winners cannot be contacted,
- One or more of the winners do not send confirmation of acceptance by the indicated deadline,
- Revocation of one of the awarded prizes due to non-fulfillment of essential requirements for participation in the contest,
reserve winners will be nominated based on the ranking determined by the jury during evaluation of the projects.
By entering the Contest, the author of each photograph grants to Photoaid and Arché, the right to publish their images free of charge on the respective institutional websites and in Photoaid Magazine. Photoaid in turn will be responsible for crediting the photographers for each publication of their work. Photoaid reserves such right free of charge also in consideration of the promotional effects publication will have on the photographs and their authors.
Prizes:
First place: The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to live a unique experience working alongside a Photoaid photographer during a mission abroad, to document one of Arché’s International Cooperation projects in Kenya. All travelling and living expenses will be covered entirely by Arché. The winner will also receive a NIKON - D300S professional digital reflex camera.
Second place:: Scholarship for a course in Reportage named “Topic Session” organized by the Italian Institute of Photography (academic year 2011/2012 – www.istitutoitalianodifotografia.it).
Third place:: Scholarship for a workshop on reportage in Tuscany organized by Photoaid.
All three winners will have the opportunity to participate free of charge in one of the courses organized by Marianna Santoni, guru of digital imaging (www.mariannasantoni.biz).
The work of the three winners and some of the most interesting images from the other candidates will be published in a dedicated section of the Photoaid and Arché websites: www.photoaid.eu and www.arché.it.
This contest is excluded from the Decree of the President of the Republic (DPR) No. 430/2001, as provided by Article. 6, paragraph 1, letter a) of that DPR.
